Tension Headache SymptomsHeadaches come in different classifications. They
all vary in intensity and have different
symptoms, but
they all bring pain. Some may even cause nauseousness and cause
vomiting. There
are several key points that will tell you if you are experiencing
tension
headache symptoms.
Typical of tension headache symptom is that the pain is felt on both the left and right sides of the head, and then gradually spreads down to the neck region. However, it is undeniable that there have been occasions when the pain is only experienced on one side of the head, or that it feels as if the pain originates from the neck region. The severity of the tension headache pain is unpredictable. Tension headache symptoms can range in intensity from mild to moderate to severe. This pain tend to come and go over time. When
do you normally suffer from
tension headache? And typical of tension headache symptom, the
headache will tend to
worsen with
each passing hour. A tension headache can last from thirty minutes to
even a
few days. Similar to barometric
pressure headache, most tension headaches go on for a few
hours or so. One more tension headache symptom to be discussed is the tenseness of the neck and shoulder muscles. Due to the tightening of these muscles, they often feel sore and tense to the touch. Some of the causes of the tension in these muscles are bad posture, or being in an uncomfortable position for long periods of time. Tension to the
neck
and shoulder
muscle may lead to tension headaches. This type of headache is always
termed as muscle
tension headaches.
Try some stretching exercises in
between
to relax these muscles. Apart from this, there doesn't seem to be more serious symptoms. However, some patients have complained that at times they find it difficult to go to sleep. This difficulty in sleeping may be caused by the headache and neck pain. Some may even experience sleep interruptions or they have difficulty going back to sleep once awake. These sleep deprived patients may have trouble concentrating, hence making them less efficient at performing their daily duties at school, at work or even at home. Some
patients
will try
to avoid bright lights or loud noises, as they claim that the glare
from the
bright lights and the loud noises add to their degree of tension
headaches. Tension
headache symptoms seem to lead to a series of chain
reactions.
Lack of
sleep will result in them being more irritable, loss of appetite or
even a
general all-over muscle ache. It is hoped that with more emphasis given on tension headache symptoms, tension headaches can be arrested at an earlier stage and controlled to prevent it from developing into chronic tension headache or even headache on one side of head.
