Symptoms of Sinus Headache

Before going in deeper into the symptoms of sinus headache, you might want to know what are sinuses and where exactly are they located. 


Within our skull are 4 large pairs of hollow sacks filled with air, which are known as sinuses. The exact locations of our sinuses are in the forehead, behind the eyes, between the eyes and behind the cheek bones. 


Sinus headache is actually caused by the inflammation in your sinus, a condition commonly known as sinusitis. During this condition, your sinuses are blocked and mucus would be collected, allowing viruses and bacteria to grow at high rates.

Since there are various kinds of headaches, you should clearly know the symptoms of that specific headache you are suffering from. This is not an easy task since some of the common symptoms of sinus headache are similar to symptoms of migraines and tension headaches. Here are some of the symptoms you'd notice if you're suffering from sinus headache.

One of the signs or symptoms of sinus headache to look out for is pressure like pain localized at the area where your sinus or sinuses are located. Unlike the various other types of headaches such as headaches behind the eyes, this symptom is unique for sinus headache, the very first symptom you should look out for. 

The pain caused by sinus headache is often constant and dull. The pressure and pain due to sinus headache would intensify while you're making sudden head movements, such as bending forward or lying down.

Since a clogged sinus would result in sinusitis, headaches experienced after catching a cold is one of the symptoms of  sinus headache. You might feel that your headache is way worse during the morning if you've just caught a cold awhile ago. You're experiencing this symptom because mucus from the cold has been collecting all night, causing a more intense headache when you rise in the morning.

One of the next symptoms of sinus headache you should know is worsening pain from sudden temperature changes. You're probably suffering from sinus headache if your pain increases for no obvious reasons while you're moving into a cool room from a hot environment outside, or vice versa.

With all the main symptoms of sinus headache cleared out, you might want to look out for the minor symptoms as well, just to be on the safe side. These symptoms should point out to you if you're suffering from sinusitis, the main cause of sinus headache. You might be suffering from sinus headache if you're suffering from postnasal drip with a sore throat. 

The thick and heavy discharge from your nose is normally yellow or green in colour if you're suffering from sinusitis. During sinusitis, your nose and nasal passages might swell and turn red.

Sinus headaches are sometimes accompanied by mild or moderate fever, which is a good symptom of sinus headache to also look out for. You might feel tired due to fatigue, a minor symptom of sinus headache. When you're suffering from sinus headache, you might get a sense that you're not feeling very well.
